The text of Dr. Nasehi’s speech

Hello, good day. I am Dr. Nashi, specialist in urology and endurology at Jam Hospital. On the occasion of Men’s Health Week, I was asked to present information about Men’s Health Week at Noor Charity, which is an institution that supports cancer patients.

This week is held between June 15-21, and it’s celebrated all over the world. the reason for that is that men are the main work force in all societies, especially in Iran. The reason is that as a result of supporting men and maintaining their health, it helps to maintain the health of the society and actually the continuation of the life of families.

Well, there are a series of issues that are generally raised regarding the health of the whole society and those are issues such as disease control, blood pressure control, diabetes control, proper exercise, proper fluid consumption, which helps in the prevention of organ diseases. For example, diabetes is one of the main causes of kidney diseases. In the long run, it can affect the kidney’s function. A large number of our patients suffer from kidney failure, in the end they end up with dialysis and later kidney transplant. Or many patients who have sexual problems arise because of diabetes. As a result, by performing a series of simple tests and blood sugar control, we can prevent these problems from occurring, and when the disease is prevented and controlled, it can actually save the society and the system from exorbitant costs. In fact, we can prevent the high costs that are imposed on the society and the country’s medical system.

It is the same story with blood pressure. Blood pressure is a very unpredictable and insidious disease that can occur in people without any symptoms. The simple way is to control the patient’s blood pressure by doctors and medical centers regularly every few months. What is effective in the development of blood pressure: There are several very important factors, one of them is, unfortunately, in Iran, the per capita consumption of salt is very high, and this high consumption of salt is one of the important factors in the development of blood pressure.

Well, we can easily prevent high blood pressure by reducing salt consumption.

Proper exercise and weight control can help control blood pressure and diabetes. Blood pressure, like diabetes, can be effective in many parts of the urinary system, it can cause kidney failure, with proper control of blood pressure, we can prevent the occurrence of these problems and their consequences. Drinking plenty of fluids is recommended. It is recommended to healthy people and especially to those who work in hot environments, like in brick kilns, in bakeries, in steel factories, and in hot environments in general. Because when fluid consumption is low and sweating is high, it lowers the kidney’s blood flow and this can cause damage to the kidney. In chronic conditions, it can cause kidney failure.

So what are the consequences? One of the consequences of low fluid intake can be urinary stones. Unfortunately, urinary stones are sometimes asymptomatic and noiseless. Of course, we have many cases where the patient comes while suffering with colic and kidney pain, that’s when the stone has moved to the urinary tract. Especially the ureter, in that case, he goes to the emergency room with a severe pain. But sometimes we see silent case; patients with both kidneys full of stones without realizing it. Patients, especially men, should have at least one check-up of their urinary system and especially their kidneys in an annual examination.

Another thing that threatens patients, especially men over 50, is the problem of prostate diseases. Especially prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world and it can be said that it is the most common. cancer in men after lung cancer. In the last few decades, a diagnostic test called the PSA test or the prostate-specific antigen has been developed, which in the has led to the detection of prostate cancer in earlier stages.

And before the disease becomes an advanced disease with severe bone involvement and reaches a stage that is sometimes untreatable and inoperable, we can perform this PSA test in men over 50 years of age to make an early diagnosis of prostate cancer. And this leads to treatment in early stages, where we can take more action for the patient if we reach an early diagnosis.

Another problem is the problem of smoking. As you know, apart from the fact that smoking is the cause of many cancers in different places, especially lung cancer, it is one of the aggravating factors of bladder cancer. We advise everyone not to smoke. Especially in our field, one of the predisposing factors in bladder cancer is smoking. The prevalence of bladder cancer in smokers is several times higher than in non-smokers, especially when we come across a person who comes and complains of the presence of blood in the bladder. When there’s blood in the urine, the first thing we ask the patient is whether he is a smoker or not.
