The text of Dr. Assar Zadegan’s speech
Greetings, courtesy and respect to the contacts of the Noor charity organization. It has been asked whether mobile phone electromagnetic waves are dangerous or not? Do they have an effect on health and what behavior should we actually take with these electromagnetic rays or are their effects destructive or not?
The truth is that this discussion is a detailed discussion and cannot be answered with a yes or a no. A very important point about these kinds of questions is that when we want to answer a question in this way. And have a direct answer -and say for example: yes, it has an effect, or no, it does not have an effect- we need prospective studies.
What do prospective studies mean?
It means that you include a significant number of people in a study and for a very long time. That is, for example, to check the effectiveness or side effects of something, you need to have a study of, for example, 10 or 20 years, and the samples and people who enter the study should be simulated in terms of other factors other than this one factor.
What does that mean?
These two groups should be almost matched in terms of all other factors, such as their age, sex, or other risk factors, such as smoking or blood fat and blood sugar, and all other issues. And only in one group there is a risk factor – for example, let’s say cell phone radiation – and not in the other group. I can say that a very, very large study was done in England about these electromagnetic waves, maybe about 10 or 15 years ago. And they used people who lived next to the big telecommunication towers and actually studied electromagnetic waves and them for a long time. Although there is a lot of talk about these waves in the media, naturally, they can sometimes cause some nervous symptoms, anxiety, aggression, and other issues for patients and people who are close to them.
But regarding the direct impact on health and whether there are serious effects, for example, there was a debate as to whether these might be tumorigenic and whether this carcinogenesis exists in relation to these waves or not?
The answer of this research, which was conducted with a large number of cases within the large number of years, was a negative answer. That is, if we want to give a scientific answer at the moment, we do not have a very serious and definitive document related to carcinogenesis or actually having effects on people’s physical health. But in terms of mental and emotional health, anxiety, aggression, and sometimes insomnia, yes, the answer to this part is positive. However, in terms of physical health and tumorigenesis and carcinogenesis, until now there has been no positive and documented answer regarding this theory of detailed scientific studies.
Than you so much.
